Who we are

ease.fm streams AI-generated instrumental music for free, with no account.

What we collect

  • A listener id. The first time you press play we create a random id and keep it in a cookie. It says nothing about who you are.
  • Listening events: which tracks played, how many seconds you heard, whether you skipped, and your thumbs up and down. They attach to the listener id.
  • Your IP address is read to rate-limit requests and to run the bot check. We do not store it in our database. Cloudflare keeps short-lived request logs that include it.
  • Page visits, counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics: the page, the site that linked to it, your country, and your browser and device type. It sets no cookie, stores nothing in your browser, and cannot tell one visit of yours from the next.
  • Only if you press Accept cookies on the cookie banner, visits and use of the site measured by Google Analytics: the pages you open, the site that linked to them, your approximate location, your browser and device, and a random id it keeps in cookies so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one. Google truncates your IP address and does not store it.

There are no accounts: we never ask for your name, your email or a password.

Why we use it

  • Running your stream, which is what you came for.
  • Personalization: your votes shape what plays next and fill your Liked playlist.
  • Scoring the catalog in aggregate: the Top 100 and Rising charts count listeners and votes per track, with no listener behind them.
  • Counting visits and listening in aggregate - which pages bring people, how many listeners come back and how long they listen - our legitimate interest in improving the service. Google Analytics runs on your consent alone, which you can take back at any time under Cookie settings at the foot of every page.
  • Rate limits and abuse prevention, our legitimate interest in keeping the service up for everyone.

Who processes it for us

Cloudflare hosts the service, the database and the audio, counts page visits, and runs the bot check before your first session, under a data processing agreement with EU safeguards for any transfer outside the EEA. The database is kept in Cloudflare's Western Europe region.

Google runs Google Analytics for us as a processor, under its data processing terms with EU safeguards for transfers to the United States. We have not turned on Google signals, advertising features or data sharing with Google's other products.

The music model that generates the tracks receives our prompts and nothing about you.

We do not sell or share your data for marketing. There are no advertising trackers; the analytics is the visit counts above, and Google Analytics only if you accept it.

How long we keep it

  • Your listener id: the cookie lasts thirty days from your last visit. Ten days after it expires the id and everything under it is deleted, after its votes are folded into the anonymous per-track totals.
  • Detailed listening events: thirty days. After that only counts per track and per day remain, with no listener behind them.
  • Google Analytics: its cookies last up to two years from your last visit, and Google keeps the events under them for at most fourteen months.

Deleting your data

Clear this site's data in your browser. That also removes the Google Analytics cookies. The listener id is then unreachable from anywhere, and it is deleted with everything under it on the schedule above.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how it is used, and take it with you. Write to privacy@ease.fm and we will answer within a month. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

Cookies and local storage

Ours: ease_session keeps your listener id for thirty days, renewed while you keep coming back.

Google Analytics': _ga and _ga_998RRY58CS hold its random visitor id for up to two years. They are set only after you press Accept cookies, and removed when you press Decline under Cookie settings.

Three local keys in your browser remember your volume, the playlists you save in Filter by genre, and your answer to the cookie banner. They never leave your device.
